Job description
Producer - Coal Car Studio

Coal Car Studio is looking for a Producer to help drive the development of Fruit Golf, our original multiplayer virtual reality game. If you're excited about creating immersive experiences and enjoy working in dynamic environments, we'd love to have you on our team. As a Producer, you'll work closely with Team Directors to achieve both short- and long-term goals. Your role will include scoping tasks, tracking progress, overcoming challenges, and motivating the team. You'll play a key part in shaping our launch strategy and scaling production as we work towards our 2025 release. You may also contribute to other exciting projects at Coal Car Studio.

This is a full-time, permanent position with the flexibility of hybrid or fully remote work. Preference will be given to those based in Vancouver, Canada.

Role Overview: As a Producer, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day project operations, ensuring smooth workflows, and fostering collaboration among team members. Your work will help keep the team motivated, address challenges, and ensure that production goals are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Track team tasks using Microsoft Azure DevOps.
  • Manage deadlines and plan schedules to meet objectives.
  • Identify risks and roadblocks, and help find creative solutions.
  • Facilitate communication across internal teams (Design, Art, Technical).
  • Support stand-up meetings and team gatherings.
  • Run sprints, including planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Generate reports on project progress, including burndown charts.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining project budgets.
  • Support grant applications and funding reports.
  • Attend partnership development meetings.
  • Recommend improvements to streamline production processes.
  • Organize playtesting sessions and gather feedback to improve the game.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to timelines and quality standards.
  • Foster a positive work environment, motivating team members and celebrating successes.
  • Document milestones, lessons learned, and retrospective outcomes for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with grant writing and project proposals.
  • Lead the certification process for release, ensuring all requirements are met for platforms, including consoles and VR.
  • Help the team prepare for shipping, including managing submissions, meeting platform requirements, and troubleshooting any last-minute issues.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in Game Design, Arts, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in production or project management in gaming or tech.
  • Experience shipping a game, including going through the certification process for release, ideally on console or VR.
  • Familiarity with programming and art pipelines.
  • Experience with VR/AR is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency with Git version control in a team environment is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Willingness to stay current with project management tools and workflows.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Community Manager - Coal Car Studio

Coal Car Studio is looking for an enthusiastic Community Manager to help grow and engage our community for Fruit Golf, our original multiplayer virtual reality game. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the community from the ground up, with ample opportunities for growth and development. If you are passionate about games, have excellent communication skills, and thrive on interacting with players, we'd love to have you on our team. As a Community Manager, you'll be the voice of our studio, managing our online presence, engaging with our player base, and creating exciting opportunities for our community to connect. You'll be instrumental in building a positive environment that enhances the experience for all players.

This is a contract position with the opportunity to transition into a permanent role based on performance and studio needs, offering flexibility for hybrid or fully remote work. Preference will be given to those based in Vancouver, Canada.

Role Overview: As a Community Manager, you will help build and maintain a vibrant player community leading up to the launch of Fruit Golf next year, and continue to support it post-launch. You will interact directly with our players, amplify their voices, and ensure their feedback reaches our development team. Your work will be crucial in creating a welcoming environment for all players and helping us understand the needs of our audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with players across social media, forums, and other online platforms, with a focus on building and managing a Discord community.
  • Monitor and manage community channels, responding to questions and feedback.
  • Develop and execute community engagement strategies to grow our player base, with goals such as increasing Discord membership by 25% in the first six months.
  • Create, schedule, and publish content across social platforms to promote our game and keep the community informed.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to support promotional campaigns.
  • Host and moderate live events, such as Q&A sessions and streams, ensuring at least one community event per month.
  • Collect and analyze player feedback, sharing insights with the development team.
  • Develop community guidelines to ensure a positive and inclusive space for all players.
  • Support players by troubleshooting issues, answering questions, and providing resources.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive community by addressing player concerns and promoting healthy interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Experience building and managing online communities, preferably in the gaming industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and community-building strategies.
  • Passion for video games and familiarity with gaming culture.
  • Experience with content creation, including posts, videos, and graphics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Familiarity with virtual reality games is required, while experience with VR or multiplayer games is a plus.
